June 13, 2014 – The Republic Steakhouse

I.B.F. (International Bar Fly)
Dashes Fernet Branca
Dashes triple sec
1 oz. brandy

Place an ice cube into a Champagne flute and add liquors. Fill with Champagne.

A bartender’s choice. Fernet Leopold, Christian Brothers brandy, and Gruet sparkling white wine. This is a pretty serious drink; it’s not like the other Champagne cocktails I’ve tried. I’m guessing it was the Fernet that gave the drink a kind of pleasant musky vibe with a hint of licorice, but not as much mint as I thought I’d taste. Although enjoyable, it wasn’t fabulous and I probably wouldn’t order it again.

Fernet Leopold is an American realization of the traditional Italian Fernet Branca.
