June 19, 2014 – The Republic Steakhouse
3/4 oz. lemon juice
1 egg white
1/4 oz. triple sec
1 1/2 oz. Bourbon
Shake well over ice in a shaker. Strain into a sour glass.
I wasn’t expecting much out of this one, so I went with the well bourbon, Maker’s Mark (my old friend, you’re still not bad). Very much like an old-fashioned whiskey sour, and man, was it sour. I got a hint of orange from the triple sec and a little sweet from the grenadine (guys… you really should be making your own). I usually am delighted by the frothy meringue on drinks made with egg white, but with this one, the liquid underneath the egg whites just slipped out from under without bring along any of the silky froth. Maybe if there was more sugar? I was left with a half-full glass of bland foam. Over all, not bad, but not spectacular.
