Here’s a really great little clip on how to properly nose and taste a really good Scotch:

Highland Park Scotch tasting tips

July 31, 2014 – The Republic Steakhouse

3/4 oz.lemon juice
1 egg white
1 barspoon powdered sugar
1/4 oz. sugar syrup
1 1/2 oz. Bourbon
Dash anisette

Shake well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Bulleit Bourbon. This cocktail has the perfect balance of tart and sweet that really shows off the Bourbon’s warm spice and vanilla. The “merinque” on top was silky and didn’t let the drink slip out from under it, giving me a good mixture with each sip. This is the best balanced of the traditional sour genre I’ve had so far.
