El Presidente

January 22, 2015 – The Republic Steakhouse

El Presidente 

3/4 oz. dry vermouth
1/4 oz. vermouth rosso
Dash of grenadine
1/4 oz. triple sec
1 1/2 oz. white rum
Dash of lemon juice

Stir with ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Dolin dry vermouth, Carpano Antica vermouth rosso, Bacardi white rum. I’ve developed a real dislike of run-of-the-mill Rose’s grenadine. It always makes a drink taste like fake cherry candy to me. Real, well-made grenadine never tastes like that and I don’t know why more bars don’t use it. Here’s to hoping The Republic’s new digs will provide them with the time and storage space to delve into making their own syrups. As for the rest of this drink, I could taste the rum, barely, and the vermouths’ fruity/bitter combo was there as well.
