Malcolm Lowry (Charles Schumann, 1984)
3/4 oz. lemon juice
1/4 to 3/4 oz. triple sec
1/4 oz. white rum
1 oz. tequila
Shake well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass rimmed with salt (optional).
Finally! I remembered (found out) the house tequila! It’s Hornitos Plata. Also, Prichard Crystal rum. I was surprised I liked this. I have a mental block about mixing tequila (which is probably at the very bottom of my “booze that I like” list) with anything. Rum seems to be a particularly bad choice on top of that. BUT… this was very tasty. Kind of like a traditional margarita but not as sweet or tart. I preferred the salt rim; it contrasted nicely with the rum’s subtle sweetness.
As to the name of this cocktail, I had no idea who Malcolm Lowry was. To the wiki!!! Malcolm Lowry was an English poet and novelist who is best known for his 1947 novel Under the Volcano. He is equally well known for his love of alcohol, which eventually caused his death.
