Spritzer

4 oz. white wine
Soda

Pour wine into a balloon glass and add soda.

Loosen Brothers Riesling. As far as white wine goes, this isn’t bad. With a bit more fizz, this would taste the way I always think champagne is going to taste. A little sweet, but pleasantly so.

South of the Border

1/2 lime
1 oz. tequila
3/4 oz. Tia Maria

Squeeze lime into a small highball glass. Add ice. Pour in liquors and stir well.

Kahlua, Hussong’s tequila. This is quite good! There is a hint of tamarindo, although there is nothing even close to that in the drink. As stated many times before, I don’t particularly care for tequila, but Hussong’s is the one I like best. It comes through very nicely with it’s pleasant funk. The Kahlua and lime is interesting.

Vodka Sour

3/4 oz. lemon juice
1/4 to 3/4 oz. sugar syrup
1 1/2 oz. vodka
Stemmed cherry

Shake well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a sour glass and garnish the cherry.

Dripping Springs vodka. Well… I can’t say much about it. It’s vodka and lemonade, which is good, just not very exciting.

Quarter Deck

1/2 lime
3/4 oz. cream sherry
1 oz. white rum

Squeeze lime over ice cubes in a small highball glass and drop into glass. Pour in sherry and rum and stir well.

Flor de Caña rum, Cuestra cream sherry. This is pretty good! Not sweet, but not overly tart, either. It’s rather complex. The rum is softened by the sherry, but still has a little bit to it. It gets better with every sip.

Tequila Mockingbird

Tequila Mockingbird

Juice of half a lime
1 1/2 oz. tequila
1/4 oz. crème de menthe (green)
Soda

Pour first three ingredients over crushed ice in a small highball glass. Drop squeezed lime into the glass. Add soda.

Tempus Fugit crème de menthe, Republic Plata tequila. Surprisingly, this is a rather dry cocktail. I would have thought the mint would make things a bit sweet. Overall, I like this more than I thought I would. I’m not a fan of tequila, but it’s usual funk is tempered by the mint in a pleasant way.

Sherry Flip

Sherry Flip

1 egg yolk
1/4 oz. sugar syrup
3/4 oz. cream
1 1/4 oz. medium sherry
1/4 oz. Cognac
Nutmeg

Shake well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Savory & James amantillado sherry. A bit lighter than other flips. Possibly this is way it seems a little flat. Not sweet, exactly, but makes you think sweet. The sherry is a tiny bit grapey; like brandy but without the warm caramel. I will say this: it’s nice to have a cream drink that isn’t chocolate and doesn’t make me think of dessert.

Maurice Chevalier

3/4 oz. vermouth rosso
3/4 oz. Noilly Prat French dry vermouth
Dash of orange bitters
3/4 oz. orange juice
3/4 oz. gin

Shake well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Dolin dry vermouth, Plymouth Navy Strength gin. This cocktail was a bit sweet, which is probably because of the Dolin vermouth. Noilly Prat is drier and therefore not as sweet. A very nice drink, with the orange juice playing well, as it does, with the gin.
